Fronting with GreatFrontEnd

It’s a fact, not a flex: I don’t suffer from FOMO. There are plenty of instances where I didn’t participate in events or cave in to peer pressure simply because I wasn’t interested 🤷‍♂️. In a personal capacity, an example is the “End-of-Year” Trip college and university students arrange; at the time of the “FYT” I didn’t want to go so I didn’t. A lot of people would think I felt left out or regretted the decision but it was a conscious decision that I never regretted.

However, as I grow wiser older, there are times when I am faced with rapid-fire decisions that I sometimes mess up. I’m glad to say they are few and far between but they are there. Most I don’t regret, but some just weren’t best choices.

Roughly 2 years ago, as I was searching for a low-cost VPS I discovered LowEndBox. LowEndBox (or LEB) is an amazing resource - it lists deals and offers from (relatively) reputed providers who offer deals that seem, quite frankly, impossible. But one needs to keep in mind that “economies of scale” are a thing and some of these providers have been in business for decades.

I spent a lot of time browsing LEB but I wanted more. And that’s how I became a member of LET (LowEndTalk). LET is a forum for “low end deals”, sure, but it’s also a community. We have drama, we have characters, we have scams, we have idlers, we have camaraderie.

One thing LET really showed me how much a good deal is worth. “Black Friday” is a HUGE deal in the LET world with true members staying up for nigh 40 hours to get the best deals. In addition to being fun, there are a lot of discussions around Black Friday in general. This is how I came across a thread for deals - and one of those was GreatFrontEnd (GFE).

This was the first time I heard about GFE but after some brief research, it looked really cool. Unfortunately, even with the “BF35” discount code, the cost is prohibitive for someone who deals in PKR. The good news: upon actually opening the site I was presented with the following:

We noticed you're in Pakistan. We support Purchasing Power Parity, so a 50% discount has been automatically applied!

A 50% discount 👀. Being completely honest: the cost is still a lot. Where I live, this would take a huge chunk out of one’s expenses and so I decided to not go for the deal. I thought about getting a monthly plan, speed-running through the content and get my money’s worth. Then - another silver lining:

Write or film a review of your experience with GreatFrontEnd for a 100% cashback on your first order amount. Success stories are welcome too!

And that brings us towards the conclusion of this post: I caved. I got the deal - I can’t say for sure that I will qualify for the cashback, but I really hope I do.
